Linsey Weenk and Lucas Oil CrusaderTM completed the quest for the 2017 FS1 East Championship Series at Ford Field in Detroit in dramatic fashion. Despite dominating performances in Racing throughout the season, Weenk failed to qualify in the top 8 in Detroit. While this meant leaving valuable points on the table for others, Weenk picked up 5 points by finishing second in Wheelie competition.
Meanwhile, Weenk’s closest challenger, Colton Eichelberger in Max-DTM, made the best of the opportunity by winning Racing. With only Freestyle remaining, Weenk held a 9 point lead over Eichelberger.
Morgan Kane in Grave Digger® had picked up key points with a second place run in Racing. Kane’s winning effort in Freestyle, combined with Max-D’s 14th place finish in the competition, allowed Grave Digger to vault past Max-D into second place, picking up the event championship with 27 points. Lucas Oil Crusader, due to Max-D’s low finish, had enough points to win the season championship, but added six more to the season total with a 9th place run.
Weenk started the year with a Double Down win in San Antonio, adding an event championship in the Sunday show there with strong finishes. Racing wins followed in New Orleans, Arlington and Indianapolis with a runner-up finish in Houston setting the stage for Detroit.
With the 2017 FS1 East championship, Linsey Weenk and Lucas Oil Crusader have earned a berth in Monster Jam World Finals® XVIII, to be held March 23-25 at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas, NV. This will be Weenk’s 12th appearance in Monster Jam World Finals and the seventh consecutive year he will be driving Lucas Oil Crusader.
