Point races are tightening as the Monster Jam® season heads closer to Monster Jam World Finals® XVIII.

FS1 West: A doubleheader weekend in Houston saw a change at the top of the leaderboard. Monster Energy® (Todd LeDuc) has moved out front, thanks in part to a third Freestyle win of the season. Grave Digger® (Adam Anderson) claimed a Racing win and Freestyle victory. El Toro Loco® (Marc McDonald) gained a first Racing win of the year. Next stop: Jacksonville, FL

FS1 East:  Lucas Oil CrusaderTM appears unstoppable in Racing, notching a fourth title of 2017 with victory in Indianapolis. The win boosted the point lead, but the race is far from over. Grave Digger (Morgan Kane) was a double winner by taking Wheelies and Freestyle. El Toro Loco (Chuck Werner) performed a corkscrew flip during Freestyle. Next stop: Houston, TX

Stadium Tour 3: Son-uva Digger® (Ryan Anderson) continued on a Racing tear, winning for the third time in five appearances. Anderson has a 14-3 racing record. Grave Digger (Jon Zimmer) kept pace with a Freestyle win as Jester (Matt Pagliarulo) topped Wheelie competition. Next stop: Oakland, CA (final event)

Stadium Tour 4: U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis was the scene for a change at the top of the point standings in this series. VP Mad ScientistTM (Lee O’Donnell) captured Freestyle and gained enough to shoot past DragonTM  (Dustin Brown) in the point tally. Dragon won Racing with the tribute truck USA-1 (Roger Gauger) coming out best in Wheelies. Next stop: San Diego, CA

Triple Threat Series Central presented by AMSOIL: Grave Digger (Krysten Anderson) won all four weekend Freestyle competitions in Pittsburgh and recorded her first event championship with a Friday night performance. Anderson won eight competitions over the weekend. Pirate’s CurseTM (Camden Murphy) and MegalodonTM (Justin Sipes) were also multiple winners in the action. Next stop: Rosemont, IL

Triple Threat Series West presented by AMSOIL: Despite some issues on Saturday night, Grave Digger (Cole Venard) came away with the most points and appears well on the way to a return to Monster Jam World Finals XVII. El Toro Loco (Mark List) slipped past Monster Mutt® Dalmatian (Cynthia Gauthier) for third, leading by two points. Next stop: Albuquerque, NM

Triple Threat Series East: Grave Digger (Tyler Menninga) continued to wow everyone with tricks that included a vertical wheelie that lasted more than 20 seconds. Grave Digger’s two event championships of the weekend tightened the race at the top, but Max-DTM (Blake Granger) broke up a weekend sweep. It was Granger’s first event championship. Next stop: Cleveland, OH

Arena Tour 4: The final stop of the three-week Canada swing for this tour happened in London. Grave Digger (Randy Brown) won seven competitions with Northern Nightmare® (Cam McQueen) taking the other five. Next stop: Memphis, TN

Arena Tour 5: A snowy weekend in Hartford didn’t diminish the fans who came out for three Monster Jam presentations. Grave Digger (Pablo Huffaker) took home all three event championships and added some breathing room in the point standings from Rammunition (Mat Dishman). Bad News Travels Fast (Brandon Derrow) returned to the series and moved up in points, thanks to a solid weekend. Next stop: Toledo, OH

Arena Tour 6: Carolina Crusher® (Gary Porter) took both Freestyle wins while Stinger (Zane Rettew) claimed both Wheelie wins in Columbia, SC. Megalodon (Alex Blackwell) was a three-time winner with two wins in Timed Racing and a Donut competition. Next stop: Oklahoma City, OK

Battle for the Bid

USA

With Monster Jam World Finals® XVIII (March 23-25) less than six weeks away, competitors in five Monster Jam® tours are battling for an automatic bid to the event. This year, the point champions of the FS1 West, FS1 East, Triple Threat Series East, Triple Threat Series West presented by AMSOIL and Triple Threat Series Central presented by AMSOIL will punch their tickets to Monster Jam’s showcase event. Each series is now past the halfway mark, but anything can happen in the remaining dates.

FS1 West

Leader: Todd LeDuc (Metal MulishaTM)

Since taking the seat in week two, LeDuc has been on fire, winning Freestyle in San Diego, then adding a Double Down (Racing & Freestyle) in Glendale. A Freestyle win in Houston propelled the team to the top, but the margin is far from comfortable.

Top Contender: Neil Elliott (Max-DTM trails by 5 points)

As early season leader, the 2015 FS1 Championship Series winner cannot be counted out when there are points on the line.  Elliott has qualified for each Racing field, but two early exits have cost valuable points.

In the Hunt: Marc McDonald (El Toro Loco® trails by 6 points), Adam Anderson (Grave Digger® trails by 10 points)

Events Remaining: Jacksonville (Feb. 18-19) and Atlanta (Mar. 4 and 5)

FS1 East

Leader: Linsey Weenk (Lucas Oil CrusaderTM)

Weenk has been virtually unstoppable since opening the season with a Double Down in San Antonio. The sweeps of Racing have been big, but Freestyle is the Achilles’ heel as Lucas Oil Crusader has been out of the top five on two occasions.

Top Contender: Colton Eichelberger (Max-D trails by 14 points)

Since assuming the ride from his father (Tom Meents), Eichelberger has driven to a Freestyle win (Arlington) and a Racing final (Indianapolis). A little more seat time with the remaining shows could bring a Racing win and make this race very interesting.

In the Hunt: Morgan Kane (Grave Digger trails by 17), Chuck Werner (El Toro Loco trails by 20)

Events Remaining: Houston (Feb. 18) and Detroit (Mar. 4)

Triple Threat Series West presented by AMSOIL

Leader: Cole Venard (Grave Digger)

Consistent performances have proven to be the key for Venard, who is seeking his second Monster Jam World Finals appearance. Venard has been steadily stretching his lead weekly after taking the top spot at the end of the second week. Sacramento was a big boost for the championship effort. There are still plenty of shows to settle the score, so Venard will not be letting up.

Top Contender: Jared Eichelberger (Max-D trails by 84 points)

In just his second year of competition, Eichelberger is staying on top of his game to keep pace in the variety of competitions offered through the Triple Threat concept. In competitions where Max-D does not win, Eichelberger is usually among the top finishers.

In the Hunt: Mark List (El Toro Loco trails by 224 points), Cynthia Gauthier (Monster Mutt® Dalmatian trails by 226)

Events Remaining: Albuquerque (Feb. 17-19), Portland (Feb. 25-26), Tucson (Mar. 3-5) and Fresno (Mar. 10-11)

Triple Threat Series Central presented by AMSOIL

Leader: Justin Sipes (MegalodonTM )

Sipes is trying to go wire to wire in pursuit of making an impression in his rookie season. The former Supercross rider grabbed the lead after week one and has made the challenge of the chase difficult for the rest of the field. Sipes has the most wins this season in six of the seven categories.

Top Contender: Camden Murphy (Pirate’s CurseTM    trails by 138)

Murphy’s oval track racing background has served him well as the main contender. He has won half of the racing competitions to lead the category and holds second in many others, but is still looking for a first Freestyle win.

In the Hunt: Armando Castro (El Toro Loco trails by 178), Matt Cody (Blue Thunder® trails by 195)

Events Remaining: Rosemont (Feb. 17-20), Baltimore (Feb. 24-26), Allentown (Mar. 3-5) and Providence (Mar. 10-12)

Triple Threat Series East

Leader: Blake Granger (Max-D)

Assuming the ride in week 5, Granger was quick to understand his role at keeping the rest of the field at bay. He scored an event championship in just his fifth show, riding his ATV experience and quick learning of Monster Jam truck action to stay in the thick of things.

Top Contender: Tyler Menninga (Grave Digger trails by 38)

In his second season of competition, Menninga has displayed mastery of the Monster Jam truck in competitions, leaving veteran observers to wonder what he can do next. Hampered by inexperience in the ATV and Speedster action, Menninga has nonetheless been piling on the points to narrow down the battle for the bid.

In the Hunt: Bari Musawwir (ZombieTM trails by 149) , Tristan England (EarthShakerTM trails by 204)

Events Remaining: Cleveland (Feb. 18-19), Wilkes-Barre (Feb. 24-26), Bridgeport (Mar. 3-5) and Grand Rapids (Mar. 10-12)

Jacksonville Ready for TWO Shows!

Monster Jam® action will be enjoyed by fans from coast to coast this weekend. One of the highlights will be the historic appearance in Jacksonville, Florida.

This north Florida city has been a steady host of Monster Jam competition since the mid-‘90s, but 2017 marks the first time that Monster Jam fans will get two chances to watch the action.

Due to record-setting attendance on Saturday night events in past seasons, officials at Jacksonville’s EverBank Field decided to ask for a second show for 2017. Their request was granted as a Sunday afternoon date (Feb. 19) was added to the scheduled Saturday night (Feb. 18).

The dual stop is part of the FS1 West Series, which is currently embroiling in the tightest point battle of the season. Monster Energy® (Todd LeDuc) holds a slight lead over Max-DTM and several other challengers. The twin dates will play an impactful role on the eventual championship. The series champion will receive an automatic bid to Monster Jam World Finals® XVII.

Drama continues to build in the point races being contested in stadiums and arenas across the country. One series championship gained hardware this past weekend.

FS1 West: The closest point battle in Monster Jam® rests here as a change at the top of the points happened following a two-show weekend in Jacksonville. Neil Elliott (Max-DTM) had a one-point advantage over a hard charging Adam Anderson (Grave Digger®). Only two shows remain, so this one is down to the wire. Next Stop: Atlanta, GA (Mar. 4-5)

FS1 East: Linsey Weenk (Lucas Oil CrusaderTM) took valuable points in Houston, winning the event championship thanks to runner-up finishes in Racing and Freestyle. The effort of Colton Eichelberger (Max-D) kept Weenk from clinching the season championship. After an off-week, it will be settled in the final round. Next Stop: Detroit, MI (Mar. 4)

Stadium Tour 3: The first Monster Jam champion of 2017 was crowned in dominant fashion in Oakland. Ryan Anderson (Son-uva Digger) captured the Double Down wins in Racing and Freestyle to put the exclamation point on the season to date that saw a 17-3 racing record and four championships.

Stadium Tour 4: Southern California rains challenged the Monster Jam drivers in San Diego but Charlie Pauken (Grave Digger) was up to the challenge. The 2010 World Freestyle champion recorded Double Down wins in Racing and Freestyle to move into second place in points. Next Stop: Anaheim, CA

Triple Threat Series Central presented by AMSOIL: A six-performance marathon in Rosemont, Illinois was highlighted by Bernard Lyght (Alien InvasionTM) celebrating his first overall event championship of 2017. Competing near his hometown, Camden Murphy (Pirate’s CurseTM) snagged four titles to tighten the race. Next Stop: Baltimore, MD

Triple Threat Series West presented by AMSOIL: Jared Eichelberger (Max-D) claimed three of the four overall event championships in Albuquerque, picking up 30 points on series leader Cole Venard (Grave Digger). Mark List (El Toro Loco®) and Cynthia Gauthier (Monster Mutt® Dalmatian) continued their own battle for third. Next Stop: Portland, OR

Triple Threat Series East: The gap has been narrowed to 9 points as Tyler Menninga (Grave Digger) is searching for the right moves to take the top spot from Blake Granger (Max-D).  Cleveland fans got a chance to see hometown product Bari Musawwir (ZombieTM) keep the competition close. Next Stop: Wilkes-Barre, PA

Arena Tour 4: A pair of Memphis events saw Randy Brown (Grave Digger) cut the lead of Cam McQueen (Northern Nightmare®) in half. Doug Charles (Wild Thang) recorded his first competition wins of the season with a pair of Wheelie wins. Next Stop: Hidalgo, TX

Arena Tour 5: Pablo Huffaker (Grave Digger) swept the Racing competition and won 11 of 16 events in Toledo to add to the points lead. Mat Dishman (Rammunition) picked up four wins and Kevin Crocker (Monster Mutt®) added one. Next Stop: Wheeling, WV

Arena Tour 6: Gary Porter (Carolina Crusher®) claimed half of the 12 competition wins in Oklahoma City. Alex Blackwell (MegalodonTM) captured five with Zane Rettew (Stinger) getting his fourth Wheelie win of the season. Next Stop: Wichita, KS

Monster Jam in the Georgia Dome

Since 1993, Monster Jam has made at least one appearance at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. This weekend, the FS1 West Series will be the final event at the facility, which is scheduled to close. A new facility, the Mercedes-Benz Georgia Dome, will open later this year.

Over time, the shows have grown from the original field of 8 trucks. The Road to Monster Jam World Finals® has always included a stop in Atlanta.

Grave Digger® has been a featured attraction in every show, but several of the trucks on hand this weekend have made multiple stops in the past. Atlanta fans have seen 115 different truck names trying for a prestigious championship. On three occasions, a new truck was unveiled with Superman, Iron Man and Junkyard Dog making their respective Monster Jam debuts at the Georgia Dome.

The highlights are numerous. The Georgia Dome was the scene of Monster Jam’s only live television broadcast on January 9, 2010. The 65,000 fans on hand and a nationwide TV audience saw Tom Meents in Max-DTM double down by winning Racing and Freestyle. The following year, Grave Digger® and Dennis Anderson came to Atlanta with an unprecedented win streak of nine consecutive stadium Racing championships. The streak ended at the hands of Frank Krmel in the Atlanta championship round in a photo finish.

The 2017 field will include drivers who have seen success in the Georgia Dome. Returning for this year are 2016 Atlanta racing winner Bounty Hunter (Jim Creten) and Adam Anderson (Grave Digger), who has won two Atlanta Freestyle championships, 2007 and 2016.

In addition to being the final event in the Georgia Dome, the weekend doubleheader marks the final contests of the 2017 FS1 West Series. The Series Champion, to be crowned at the conclusion of the Sunday afternoon event, will receive an automatic bid to Monster Jam World Finals XVIII March 23-25 in Las Vegas, NV.

FS1 East Champion Crowned

Linsey Weenk and Lucas Oil CrusaderTM completed the quest for the 2017 FS1 East Championship Series at Ford Field in Detroit in dramatic fashion. Despite dominating performances in Racing throughout the season, Weenk failed to qualify in the top 8 in Detroit. While this meant leaving valuable points on the table for others, Weenk picked up 5 points by finishing second in Wheelie competition.

Meanwhile, Weenk’s closest challenger, Colton Eichelberger in Max-DTM, made the best of the opportunity by winning Racing. With only Freestyle remaining, Weenk held a 9 point lead over Eichelberger.

Morgan Kane in Grave Digger® had picked up key points with a second place run in Racing. Kane’s winning effort in Freestyle, combined with Max-D’s 14th place finish in the competition, allowed Grave Digger to vault past Max-D into second place, picking up the event championship with 27 points. Lucas Oil Crusader, due to Max-D’s low finish, had enough points to win the season championship, but added six more to the season total with a 9th place run.

Weenk started the year with a Double Down win in San Antonio, adding an event championship in the Sunday show there with strong finishes. Racing wins followed in New Orleans, Arlington and Indianapolis with a runner-up finish in Houston setting the stage for Detroit.

With the 2017 FS1 East championship, Linsey Weenk and Lucas Oil Crusader have earned a berth in Monster Jam World Finals® XVIII, to be held March 23-25 at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas, NV. This will be Weenk’s 12th appearance in Monster Jam World Finals and the seventh consecutive year he will be driving Lucas Oil Crusader.

FS1 West Champion Crowned

It took all 10 events to come up with a champion for the 2017 FS1 West Series and, in the end, one point decided the outcome.

Todd LeDuc and Monster Energy® claimed the title in a season that could be best be described as “up and down”. When the series opened in Anaheim, Carl Van Horn was at the wheel of Monster Energy and LeDuc was named to the seat right after that. LeDuc won his first Freestyle in the truck in San Diego the following week and picked up the event championship. A setback came the following week when Monster Energy was unable to perform for Freestyle, losing valuable points.

The stop in Glendale was a key turning point as Monster Energy doubled down to move within 10 points of series leader Neil Elliott in Max-DTM. The fortunes changed at the next stop with Monster Energy taking the point lead after the Sunday show in Houston. The series moved to Jacksonville, which started well with a Saturday Racing win. Disaster came on Sunday when Monster Energy did not qualify for Racing, losing key points and the series lead.

The series finale in Atlanta would feature Saturday and Sunday shows. At the end of the Saturday event, Monster Energy’s overall event win pushed the team ahead of Max-D by four points with one event left. Despite a Round 1 Racing loss, Monster Energy was able to put together a Freestyle run that earned second place and enough to claim the title by one point.

With the win, Todd LeDuc and Monster Energy have qualified to be a part of Monster Jam World Finals® XVIII in Las Vegas, NV on March 23-25.

More Qualifiers Announced

Some past champions dominate the next round of qualifiers for Monster Jam World Finals® as the field of 31 competitors is growing.

Four-time World Champion Adam Anderson becomes the first to represent Team Grave Digger®. The defending Freestyle champion, Anderson captured his first championship with a Freestyle win in 2008, adding Racing Championships in 2013 and 2014. Anderson is making his 12th appearance with a career World Finals racing record of 19-8 and a Freestyle average of 24.5

Defending World Racing Champion Morgan Kane will bring another Grave Digger to the show. Making his third appearance at the Monster Jam World Finals, Kane competed in the FS1 East Series, finishing second to champion Linsey Weenk. Kane carries a 5-1 racing record and Freestyle average of 26.5 into this year’s competition.

Jim Koehler and Avenger have made every past Monster Jam World Finals and this year will be no different. The two-time Freestyle champion (2003, 2011) will be in pursuit of his third title.

The 2012 Freestyle winning combo of Cam McQueen and Northern Nightmare® will be out for redemption in 2017. McQueen, making his 10th World Finals appearance, has competed on Arena Tour 5 this season. He has a World Finals racing record of 5-9 and a solid Freestyle average of 23.44 that could be increased with this year’s effort.

Jim Creten and Bounty Hunter will be in hot pursuit of a 30th Monster Jam World Finals Racing victory. The 2005 Freestyle Champion has a 28-16 record and his 16th appearance could put him into position for the milestone win.

Mike Vaters II returns for 2017 in hopes of rebounding from last year’s disappointment when he was unable to participate in Racing. Vaters and Overkill Evolution will make a fourth appearance in World Finals action, looking for a first racing round win. The Freestyle average of 28.17 is second among active competitors.

The field is growing for Monster Jam World Finals XVIII with several new names ready to mark their mark in Monster Jam history.

Charlie Pauken, the 2010 World Freestyle champion, already picked up a title this year as the champion of Stadium Tour 4. Pauken will leave his Grave Digger® on the sidelines and climb into Monster Mutt® for the 2017 Monster Jam World Finals. Pauken is making his 13th appearance, carrying an 8-12 racing record with a 22.21 Freestyle average.

Ryan Anderson and Son-uva Digger® won the Stadium Tour 3 championship in Oakland, cementing his consideration for a return to Monster Jam World Finals. Anderson will be heading for his sixth appearance, looking for that first title. He was the 2015 runner-up in both Racing and Freestyle and holds an 11-5 record in MJWF Racing. His Freestyle average of 27.5 is third best overall.

Former Young Guns champion Coty Saucier will add a second Monster Energy® truck to the field of contenders. Saucier will be making his third start, bringing a solid 6-2 Racing record. He has advanced to the Semi-Finals in each of the past two years.

FS1 West runner-up Neil Elliott will stay behind the wheel of Max-DTM as he makes his way to Las Vegas. His 25.5 Freestyle average ranks in the top 10 and Elliott holds a 7-6 Racing record. This will be his seventh Monster Jam World Finals appearance.

Scott Buetow and Team Hot WheelsTM Firestorm will have a clear objective in his return to the World Finals for the fifth straight year. Buetow put together a Freestyle with three backflips, but could not earn the victory last year. This year offers a chance for redemption.

Marc McDonald (El Toro Loco®) will make his 12th appearance. His Racing record (17-11) and Freestyle average (24.8) rank in the Top 10 among competitors.

The Dalmatian Nation is rejoicing with the word that Candice Jolly and Monster Mutt® Dalmatian will return for the ninth appearance. The fan favorite competed on Stadium Tour 4 in 2017 against some tough competition.

Jon Zimmer will make his fourth appearance in his third different truck. Now at the command of DragonTM, Zimmer last appeared at World Finals in 2013.

B.J. Johnson will give Gas Monkey GarageTM fans something to cheer about in 2016. In his second appearance in World Finals, Johnson is hoping to add to his racing record and put himself firmly in contention for a World championship.

Brianna Mahon is poised to make fans take notice as she gets her first chance to drive Scooby-Doo!TM in Monster Jam World Finals. This will be her second appearance at the Las Vegas event.

New to the lineup is Matt Buyten, who has been driving Metal MulishaTM on Stadium Tour 4 this season. Metal Mulisha is a two-time champion, so the veteran FMX rider who has competed in the truck will get the call.

Final Weekend for Triple Threat Series Championships

USA

Three Monster Jam athletes will punch a ticket to the Monster Jam World Finals® XVIII when competition ends in the Triple Threat Series this weekend.

The closest battle rests with the Triple Threat Series East, which will have five shows to settle the score in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Current point leader Tyler Menninga of Grave Digger moved into his position just a few weeks ago, now holding a 59-point margin.  Colton Eichelberger of Max-D has returned from some stadium fill-in work to put his focus squarely on the hunt. Grave Digger has won the last six Speedster Obstacle Course titles and has won 7 of the last 8 Freestyles. Max-D has a decided advantage in ATV wins, but many of those came at the hands of Eichelberger’s teammate, Blake Granger. This one could go to the wire, to be decided on Sunday afternoon.

Going into a three-show weekend in Fresno, California, Cole Venard and Grave Digger® carry an 84-point lead over Jared Eichelberger and Max-DTM for the championship in the Triple Threat Series West presented by AMSOIL. Venard, the defending champion, has recorded more wins in Racing and Freestyle competition. Eichelberger leads the competitors with the most victories in Wheelies and Donuts.

The largest margin held by a leader into the final weekend is in the Triple Threat Series Central presented by AMSOIL. Justin Sipes and MegalodonTM is ahead of nearest contender Camden Murphy and Pirate’s CurseTM by 113 points as the series faces four shows in Providence, Rhode Island. Sipes started the year strong and picked up key points at a hometown show in Louisville, Kentucky. Murphy used some of the hometown mojo at the Rosemont, Illinois, stop, winning four event championships on the weekend.  With this weekend’s events, Murphy still has a chance, but it will be a pretty tall order to move into the lead.

It came down to the final weekend, but the champions of the Triple Threat Series have successfully reached the pinnacle of the competition standings.

Cole Venard/Grave Digger®, Triple Threat Series West presented by AMSOIL

For the second consecutive year, Cole Venard powered Grave Digger to a Series Championship. His 2017 season saw him take the series lead in Sacramento in the third week of competition. His strengths came in the Racing and Freestyle events and his steady performance allowed him to keep Jared Eichelberger and Max-DTM at bay.

It’s time to round out the field for the Monster Jam World Finals® XVIII. This year’s event starts soon (March 23-25) and will feature these competitors.

Bari Musawwir will compete in his fifth World Finals, bringing the popular ZombieTM truck to the delight of the fans. Bari has a 5-4 record in Racing competition in the main event and will be looking to improve on his score of 23 from last year’s Freestyle.

Chad Fortune will join the field for his 15th World Finals, bringing Soldier Fortune for its third straight appearance. Fortune spent some time in the Freestyle Hot Seat a few years back and is itching for a return and a championship.

Lee O’Donnell will be back with the VP Racing Fuels Mad ScientistTM. This will be the truck’s second appearance, but O’Donnell will be making his eighth start in the Monster Jam World Finals. O’Donnell has won three Racing Championships and a Freestyle so far in 2017.

Great Clips Mohawk WarriorTM  and driver Bryce Kenny have been selected to be a part of this year’s Monster Jam World Finals. The second-year driver competed on the Triple Threat Series West presented by AMSOIL, highlighted by an event win in Tucson.

A second El Toro Loco® truck will be driven by Becky McDonough, who gets her first chance to compete in the Friday and Saturday competition. Since World Finals XVII, Becky has scored stadium Freestyle wins in Minneapolis and Toronto.

Buddy Tompkins and Razin’ Kane will round out the field of 31 selected competitors. It will be the first chance for both truck and driver to compete in the Friday and Saturday activity.

The final spot in the 32-truck field will be reserved for the winner of the Double Down Showdown, which will be held Thursday, March 23. A field of 16 competitors will line up for that chance to move on through the weekend competition. The Double Down Showdown competitors will be announced on March 15.
